Panforte, the aptly named "strong-bread" of Siena is a dense mix of almonds and cnadied fruit sweetened with honey and spices. There are references to the Crusaders carrying Panforte with them on their quests proving the durability of this sweetbread.

Traditional Tuscan Panforte dusted in powdered sugar - perfect with wine, coffee or tea, served with cheeses and mixed nuts, or diced and sprinkled atop roasted root vegetables or roast pork.
